Watch out for fake CNE tickets!

While the Canadian National Exhibition is currently going on right now (at the time of this blog posting), many people are finding ways on how to get the best out of the CNE – while saving at a reasonable cost.

Up until August 16th, you can get early bird CNE tickets (admission tickets/ride all day tickets) at a discounted price at a GO station near you or at selected Pizza Pizza outlets. When the CNE opens, you can still get them at the GO station – but at regular price (which is $16CDN for an admission ticket (sans rides) or $54CDN for ride-all-day tickets). Many corporate organizations also provide discounts for their employees on buying CNE tickets through the means of online sales.

However, there is an ongoing scam during the CNE in which scammers (and even trolls) are selling fake CNE tickets. Those fake tickets are being sold in the black market through other means like through Kijiji or Craigslist. That’s why law officials in Toronto along with officials at the CNE are urging people to buy tickets through somewhere “legitimate” like at the ticket booth at the CNE, at GO Transit train stations or at the TheEx.com. However, at the CNE’s website – a processing fee of $1.99CDN is applied per ticket for the transaction. What’s worst, the online site only accepts credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express).

It would be nice if the CNE’s online website should be configured to handle PayPal transactions and/or maybe Interac Online. There are many people out there who can’t have (or won’t have) credit cards for many obvious reasons. Another issue that prevents the CNE on accepting PayPal and/or Interac Online on their website is the issues associating on  finding a well reputable payment processor that supports the acceptance and deployment.

We must not forget that while Visa Debit is only limited to three financial institutions in Canada at this time (CIBC, TD, RBC), paying for CNE tickets using your Visa Debit card is not 100% confirmed, so if you people decide to pay using Visa Debit – kudos to you. Good luck out there!

Anyways, while the CNE is committed to stop fraudulent sales of its passes, it seems that criminals have too much time in their hands on selling those fake tickets.
